Snippets (Number 2)

A flash of brilliant golden light flared into being, transforming the deep purple black fabric of night for a brief moment and shining directly into Kate Lively’s eyes as she drove along the deserted road. “Shit!” the curse fell from her lips automatically as she lost control of the vehicle, the tyres skidding across the rain slick tarmac and slamming straight into a lamp post. Glass shattered, and Kate wiped away the streaks of blood dripping off her forehead, biting back the wave of sickness. “What the hell?” She was reaching for her ever present mobile, hoping that it hadn’t cracked when she spotted the figure lurching out of the undergrowth a few feet ahead of her.
